Wow Robert! Amazing post and some great Giant's of yesteryear in there too...

You do hit on an excellent point that I think far too many of us overlook. It's not all conversions, higher ROI, reduced ad spend, better click thru rates, etc... To me commercial's have always been art! I love watching them, critiquing them, gathering ideas from them and so forth. These here internets are going to be around for awhile, I suppose, so now we have to make our art for the ADD / ADHD generation ;) Pure and simple we have to remember the 'fun' in Internet Marketing .02

And Mike, your book has been an inspiration around our office for well over a year now! Thanks for all you bring to the industry!

Great post.

Too often, people talk about Internet marketing as something all breathtakingly new and different, but it's not. Sure. some of the techniques are new, just as every new technology from the printing press to radio to television ushers new ideas into marketing. But the basics remain the same--Internet marketing is more about marketing than about the Internet. One of the things that I talk about a lot in my book, Do It Wrong Quickly, is all the things about Internet marketing that people already know, but don't know they know.

Your post is a great example of how everything we do is built upon the work of the giants that preceded us. Thanks for putting everything in perspective and for naming my book with the great work of Cluetrain and Seth Godin. It's an honor to be thought of in such company.
